Test Matches at Hyderabad

Hyderabad has so far hosted 10 test matches and 5 of them against New Zealand in 1955, 1969, 1988, 2010 & 2012, and 2 West Indies 1 each against Australia, Banladesh and England. The first two tests were drawn and the test of 1988 was won by India (10 wickets). The first 3 test matches were played at Lal Bahadur Stadium. The first Test at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium (RGICS) in 2010 against NZ and was drawn and the 2nd test played between 23 to 27th August 2012 was won by India by an innings and 115 runs. The 6th Test against Australia and the 7th Test against Banladesh and the 8th Test against West Indies were won handsomely by India. Test against England played betweem 25th - 29th of January 2024 was won by England.

The first test match assigned to Hyderabad was in the year 1955. The test was played between India and New Zealand. In this drawn match Polly Umrigar score 233 runs which is the highest record for all test matches at Hyderabad.

Ravichandran Ashwin holds the record for highest number of wickets in a match. His haul of 6/31 ( I Innings) and 6/54 ( II Innings) in 2012 is the best match performance against New Zealand by an Indian Player against this country.

Virat Kohli on his way to 204 runs against the Bangladesh Team in the year 2017. He is the second Indian to score a double century in a test match at Hyderabad after Polly Umrigar.

In the 21st century, thanks to the efforts of Mr.N.S.Yadav, Hon.Secretary at HCA ,2000-09, Hyderabad now boasts of an exclusive state-of-the-art cricket venue which hosts international matches in style befitting the great game of cricket at par with any venue of international repute, anywhere in the world.
Initially it was christianed "Visaka International Cricket Stadium" and later in 2005 it was renamed "The Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium (RGICS)".

From the date of its inauguration till July 2022, RGICS hosted
